Hello, My name is Mary!![]() I am the owner and lead translator at McKee Translation. I was born in the United States and have been speaking Spanish for more than half of my life.
I studied in the United States, Cuba, Spain, and Brazil. I received my M.A. in Translation from Kent State University, and also hold an undergraduate certificate in translation and a B.A. in Spanish & Latin American Language and Area Studies from the School of International Service at American University in Washington, D.C. where I completed a thesis project on participatory investigation of Argentine Tango dancing. Before beginning my career as a translator, I worked with Spanish in many capacities: as an AmeriCorps member at Northwest Immigrant Rights Project where I provided legal aid to immigrant survivors of domestic violence, as a liaison at the GALA Hispanic Theater, as a Spanish and English teacher in the favela slums of Rio de Janeiro...and the list goes on. My experiences with Spanish in such a wide variety of contexts drove me to pursue a career in translation, where I hope to continue expanding my areas of expertise. |
